Abstract

Whistleblowers play an important role in society when they report misconducts in their workplace. It is the state's responsibility to make sure that those who perform a civic duty are protected when they risk constitutionally protected goods such as freedom of expression and life, their own and their families' lives. By transposing the European Directive on the Protection of Whistleblowers, the new German bill aims to improve the protection of whistleblowers in an effective and sustainable manner in the Federal Republic of Germany. The article illustrates the main aspects of the bill, without claiming to exhaust its content.
