The female participation on youth criminal gangs: an opposition to socialization to femininity

This article intends to analyse the female participation on youth criminal gangs. It aims to clarify, more specifically, if this phenomenon is an opposition to the “socialization to femininity” – a Tamar Pitch’s concept on what society teaches to and expect from a woman – and, in consequence, a criminal form of emancipation, or if it corresponds to another type of gender violence.
